A New Way to Identify Patients at risk for rapid disability progression

The gMS®Pro EDSS blood test is a test allowing the physician to better stratify patients according to the severity of the disease. The effect of MS progression is widely variable across patients. About 50% of patients reach the following disability milestones: loss of employment (10 years after diagnosis), need for assistive walking devices (15 years), and inability to walk (25 years). Additional impacts can include loss of arm function, loss of cognitive function, fatigue, weakness, pain, tremor, vision problems, urinary dysfunction, bowel dysfunction, muscle spasticity, swallowing disorders, sexual dysfunction, depression, anxiety, and others.

The approved disease modifying therapies (DMTs) for MS include the first-line medications that are moderately successful, but safe relative to other treatments, and second-line drugs that are given to patients with a more severe disease that seem to have a larger therapeutic effect, but more serious risks. For this reason objective measures for disease activity and progression and identifying patients with “breakthrough disease” need to be defined in order to optimize clinical judgment, and not rely on trial and error in patient management.

In order to help patients and physicians identify patients with a high probability of fast disability progression, Glycominds has introduced the gMS®Pro EDSS test, a new blood test for specific MS biomarkers. This new test is useful for patients at their first episode and for RRMS patients during the first decade of disease. Therefore, patients needing closer medical management will be detected, aiding in the control of their disease.

Why use the gMS®Pro EDSS test?

NEW - First blood based biomarker test validated for MS patients at risk for rapid confirmed (irreversible) EDSS progression
POWERFUL - Positive value identifies patients with a high risk to fast disability progression, negative value indicates that the patient has a lower risk to fast disability progression
gMS®Pro EDSS test allows the physician to choose the most appropriate treatment, and decides if the patient is a candidate for disease modifying therapies (DMTs) for MS
SIMPLE - Easy, non-invasive test, that complements MRI

The gMS®Pro EDSS Test is performed exclusively by Glycominds Laboratory Services at our CLIA approved lab in Simi Valley, California (CA License Number: CLF00340032).
